A Legacy of Recovery

As CHC enters 2026, and our 52nd year, we’re reminded of how our honoring our past continues to inspire our future. In 1974, CHC opened our doors, and our hearts, as the first provider of Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) for opioid use disorder in Summit County. We continue this calling, serving over 494 MAT patients in 2025, 255 Female and 239 Male.

In 1984, CHC established the Rocco Antenucci Memorial Adult Residential Center (RAMAR) for men’s residential treatment. Patients receive counseling, peer support services, and vocational programming. In the last five years, CHC has been dedicated to renovations at RAMAR to provide a warm and welcome environment for men seeking residential treatment. In January 2026, CHC will open Genesis House, right next door to RAMAR. Genesis is a transitional recovery home offering men independent living, with the next-door access to all of RAMAR’s services.

The rise in pregnant, opioid-dependent women compelled CHC to design a women’s transitional housing and treatment program called Touchstone in 2013. Touchstone provides a safe, trauma-informed environment for all women in need of substance use and mental health treatment, and prioritizes access to women who are pregnant or post-partum. Touchstone is Summit County’s only women’s residential treatment program where patients may bring up to two children, ages five years or younger, creating a nurturing space for women and their children.

Our Women’s Recovery Program offers continued services as women move from residential to outpatient treatment. Childcare is provided on-site for mothers attending counseling and group therapy. CHC also provides an Individual Outpatient Program to promote recovery through group and individual counseling, per services, vocational development, and community support groups We also offer Adolescent treatment services, and our Prevention program, Youth to Youth is active in Summit County schools.

Through the last 15 years, CHC, the Board of Directors, and Foundation Board had the desire to provide patients an easily assessible one-stop location. Our One Campus vision came to fruition in spring of this year with the ribbon cutting of our new Janet L Wagner Administration Building at 745 East Market Street in Akron. Honoring our former CEO, Janet L. Wagner, who dedicated over 40 years of service to CHC, our newest facility houses administrative services and the Ohio Multi-County Development Corporation, which provides recovery and supported housing. CHC’s One Campus concept provides more accessible treatment options at four offices located within walking distance of each other on East Market Street.

CHC’s dedication to our patients, and our community, continues to grow. We’re excited to open our new Federally Qualified Health Center Look-a-Like (FQHC LAL) housed at 745 East Market Street, in February 2026. This center will provide primary healthcare, psychiatric services, and a pharmacy for our patients, their families, and underserved individuals in the community. At CHC, we believe recovery requires the holistic care of our patients’ physical, mental, and spiritual health, and we understand our patients’ wellness emerges from safety, stability, finding purpose, supporting families, and building community.

Over the last 50 years, CHC’s services have evolved to meet the ever-changing needs of patients in recovery. One thing, however, has not changed; our dedication, respect, support, and hope for individuals at all stages of recovery.
